ATorahMinute.com is a project of Midrash BEN ISH HAI where you can learn Torah anytime. It will send you a short Daily Halacha or daily Torah by Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe.

Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe often draws his inspiration for his Halakhoth (Halachot) and pearls of Torah from the Ben Ish Hai, Hakham Yoseph Hayyim, 'a"h. In addition, the daily bulletins include a wide variety of sources: Shulhan Arukh (Shulchan Aruch), Kaf Hahayim (Kaf Hachaim), Mishnah Berurah (Mishna Brura) and many other sources.

Who gives Mishlowah Manoth and to whom?

Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe
Sunday, March 8, 2009/Adar 12, 5769
Both men and women are obligated to send two portions to a friend. Specifically two types of foods, each type of food should be individually wrapped, and not just placed together in a larger container.

Unlike Matanoth LaEbyonim (the gifts we give to the poor), which can be given to even a minor, Mishloah Manoth (the sending of gifts) must be sent to adults.

An Abel (one who is a mourner) in the twelve months of the passing of their father or mother is obligated in the sending of Mishloah Manoth, however, they shouldn't send to many different people, but rather, send only to one individual.

While there is a difference of opinion about this, it says in the holy work, Ben Ish Hai, that others should not send Mishlowah Manoth to mourners and that is also the Pesaq (ruling) of the Ramah.
