The Parasha of Qorah (Korah) begins with the words "Wiyaqqah Qorah" (and Qorah took). Razal (our Rabbis of blessed memory) in Sanhedrin ask "What did he take?", and answer that he took a bad deal for himself.
Whenever a person sins he takes something bad from the sin to himself. This bad can sometimes be transferred to another person. Razal tell us that one who speaks "Lashon Hara'" (gossip) about his friend, transfers all his friends sins to himself. Therefore, it is possible that when a person sins, the bad that he inherits will not remain his, but will be transferred to a person who speaks Lashon Hara' about him.
Someone who creates Mahloqeth, (strife) between people, however, is in a different position. Creating strife is so serious that the bad portion that he receives for his sins can never be transferred to someone else. This is because Razal tell us that we are permitted to speak Lashon Hara' about those who cause strife and controversy.
That is why we are told that Qorah took something bad for
himself, because this was for the sin of causing strife and would never leave him.
This is a powerful lesson, indeed, for us all.
