ATorahMinute.com is a project of Midrash BEN ISH HAI where you can learn Torah anytime. It will send you a short Daily Halacha or daily Torah by Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe.

Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe often draws his inspiration for his Halakhoth (Halachot) and pearls of Torah from the Ben Ish Hai, Hakham Yoseph Hayyim, 'a"h. In addition, the daily bulletins include a wide variety of sources: Shulhan Arukh (Shulchan Aruch), Kaf Hahayim (Kaf Hachaim), Mishnah Berurah (Mishna Brura) and many other sources.

Skipping a Pasuq during the Shabbath Torah reading

Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe
Sunday, October 25, 2009/Heshwan 7, 5770
If, for some reason, when reading the Torah on Shabbath morning, a Pasuq (verse) was skipped, then the congregation has to go back to read the missing Pasuq, even if the Torah was already put away and even if Musaf was prayed. They must read the Pasuq that was missed plus two adjacent Pesuqim (verses).

If, however, the Pasuq which was skipped was one of those that was read the previous Shabbath at Minha and during the week on Monday and Thursday, then there is no need to repeat it. If someone, nevertheless, wishes to be strict and read it, it must be read without the blessings.

In a congregation where there are probably many people present who will not have heard the readings during the previous week, it is preferable to go back to the portion missed and to say it without a blessing.
