ATorahMinute.com is a project of Midrash BEN ISH HAI where you can learn Torah anytime. It will send you a short Daily Halacha or daily Torah by Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe.

Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe often draws his inspiration for his Halakhoth (Halachot) and pearls of Torah from the Ben Ish Hai, Hakham Yoseph Hayyim, 'a"h. In addition, the daily bulletins include a wide variety of sources: Shulhan Arukh (Shulchan Aruch), Kaf Hahayim (Kaf Hachaim), Mishnah Berurah (Mishna Brura) and many other sources.

Not interrupting between the Friday night prayer and Qiddush

Rabbi Ya'aqob Menashe
Wednesday, March 10, 2010/Adar 24, 5770
After the 'Arbith  prayer of Leil Shabbath (Friday night) one must go to one's house immediately in order to make the Qiddush. One must not be like those who sit for an hour or two with their friends or speak idle talk, thereby casting away the sanctity of the Shabbath. As Shelomo HaMelekh, 'a"h, (king Solomon) said in Mishlei (Proverbs, 1:14): בְּנִ֗י אַל־תֵּלֵ֣ךְ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אִתָּ֑ם מְנַ֥ע רַ֝גְלְךָ֗ מִנְּתִֽיבָתָֽם:"Do not walk with them in their way, refrain from placing your foot in their path".

One must be careful to connect one Qedusha (holiness) with another. One should not interrupt between the holiness of 'Arbith and the holiness of the Se'uddah (the Shabbath meal) with quarrelsome words that cause pain to the Nefesh Yethera (additional soul that one receives on Shabbath).

One should have in mind that the first Se'uddah represents Yis-haq Abinu (Isaac), 'a"h, and saves us from the pain of Mashiyah. The second represents Abraham Abinu (Abraham), 'a"h, and saves us from the punishment of Gehinnam. The third represents Ya'aqob Abinu (Jacob), 'a"h, and saves us from the war of Gogh Umaghogh.
